Android 7.0 Nougat Beta for Galaxy S7 Edge!

android7-0nougat-galaxys7edge

For those of you who want to check out the latest Android 7.0 Nougat for your Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge, check out the OnTheEdgeLite ROM, which is a custom ROM version of the beta Android 7.0 Nougat firmware that Samsung has been testing out.  Although you can get this by signing up for Samsung’s beta program, you will have more control and root if you use the custom ROM (since you can easily go back to Marshmallow if you’d like).

The OnTheEdgeLite ROM runs very solid, great battery life, and gives you all the new features of Android Nougat such as grouped notifications, better battery life, improvements in performances, and of course Nougat easter eggs (enable by tapping on the Android N logo and holding down on it until you see a cat appear, then you can catch cats by feeding them snacks and food).  Also, you will get the latest camera just like the Galaxy Note 7 that works flawless without any bugs and you will be able to use all the modes.  The UI has changed a bit and you will see subtle improvements here and there such as having the ability to change resolution of the screen to 1080P or 720P to save battery life.

Although this is not the FINAL verision of Android 7.0 Nougat, all of apps I’ve tested run solid and everything works so you should be able to use it as daily driver.  If you have the international SM-G935F or SM-G935FD, definitely check it out this week(end) and do let us know what you think!

Please watch the video tutorial above for step-by-step installation.

Step 1. To install, first make sure you have a rooted Galaxy S7 or S7 Edge.  See How to Root Galaxy S7/S7Edge!

Step 2. IMPORTANT!  MAKE A BACKUP!!!  ALSO BACKUP EFS!  MAKE SURE EFS IS CHECKED ON WHEN BACKING UP!  I LOST MY IMEI and currently no way to restore IMEI unless you have EFS BACKUP!!!

Step 3. After that, reboot into TWRP recovery and wipe data, reboot into TWRP, then do a standard installation (refer to our TWRP failproof install method).

Step 4. Reboot into bootloader/download mode and flash Android Nougat Bootloader & Modem

Note: If you want to update your TWRP recovery, use Flashify app to flash the latest TWRP recovery.

Its seem a bit to much of a risk. I don’t get this step: “Step 2. IMPORTANT! MAKE A BACKUP!!! ALSO BACKUP EFS! MAKE SURE EFS IS CHECKED ON WHEN BACKING UP! I LOST MY IMEI and currently no way to restore IMEI unless you have EFS BACKUP!!!”, whats a EFS/IMEI?

Thanks for the tutorials and links!

I have got my phone rooted and running 7.0, only I haven’t done step 4 – Reboot into bootloader/download mode and flash Android Nougat Bootloader & Modem.

Was wondering if I will run into problems because of this even though my phone seems to be working, and, if you do think I should still flash the bootloader and modem, whether you could be a bit more specific about how I do that?

If I’m not mistaken this is for the international version. Our G935T (USA) Variants have locked bootloader’s a o therefore we are unable to flash a custom recovery such as TWRP there is however a way to root the USA Variants but again,we can not flash a custom recovery…I hope this helps

How can one flash the us variants of the S7 edge, specifically the 935u. I was under the impression that none of them are rootable unless you have an exynos version like the duos. I have a duos and want to switch to a 935u but cannot find a root method… Any help would be greatly appreciated. Either way, I look forward to upgrading to nougat so thanks for the post.
